The book begins with a brief discussion of pre-Porter County history through the removal of the Potawatomi Indians and the opening of the area to settlers. The illustrated history of the many beautiful lakes and resorts is shown. The resort hotels with their dance halls, beaches, water slides, diving platforms and picnic areas are shown. The book covers the history and influence of the Interurban electric railroad on the development of Porter County. The development of the Lake Michigan shore line and it's hotels and resorts are shown including the Indiana Dunes State Park and the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore.
An entire chapter of the book is dedicated to the Hunt Clubs and resort areas of the Kankakee River Valley including photographs of the various clubs.
